Why it matters what AI says about you
A growing share of product research never touches a classic list of search results. The shopper asks an assistant, the assistant answers in a paragraph, and only a handful of brands get named. There is no page two.
If your store is not in that paragraph, you are invisible to that shopper, and unlike a search ranking you cannot see it happen. AI answers are private conversations. The only way to know what assistants say about you is to ask them the same questions your customers ask, and keep asking, because the answers change week to week.

Where shoppers actually ask

Usage estimates vary by methodology: by monthly active users, Sensor Tower puts ChatGPT at 46% and Gemini at 28% for the same month. On top of all of this sits Google AI Overviews, which is not a chatbot people visit but an AI answer layer over ordinary Google searches.
One more number worth knowing: consumers still will not let AI buy for them (in a January 2026 Gartner survey, only 11% would let AI make the final purchase decision). The human clicks buy. But the assistant writes the shortlist, and if you are not on it, the click never comes.
Grounded answers or guesses: why it changes everything
There are two ways to check what an AI says about your brand. The cheap way is to ask the model from memory, with web access switched off. The answer comes from training data that is months or years old. It cannot see your new product line, this week's reviews, or your competitor's price cut, and models are happy to fill gaps by guessing.
The other way is what a real shopper triggers: the assistant searches the live web, reads sources, and answers with citations. That answer changes as the web changes. It is the answer that actually decides whether you get bought.

What is AEO?
AEO stands for answer engine optimization: making sure AI assistants mention and recommend your store when shoppers ask them what to buy. It is the successor habit to SEO. SEO earned you a spot in a list of links; AEO earns you a spot inside the answer itself.
How is this different from SEO tools?
SEO tools track where you rank in a search results page. AEO Tracker tracks whether you are named inside AI answers, which paragraph position you get, who gets named instead of you, and which sources the AI trusted. Different surface, different levers, different tool.
What does "grounded" mean?
A grounded answer is one where the AI searched the live web and cited its sources before answering, which is what real shoppers see. An ungrounded answer comes from the model's memory of old training data. AEO Tracker runs every check grounded and stores the citations, so your numbers reflect what shoppers actually see today.
Which AI engines does it check?

Will it change my storefront?
No. The app only reads your product catalog to draft your buying questions. It makes no theme changes, adds no scripts to your store, and never sees customer data.
How do I improve my results once I can see them?
The dashboard shows which websites the AI engines cite when they answer your questions. Getting your brand onto those sites, improving your product pages, and collecting reviews on the sources the engines already trust are the main levers. The tracker shows you week by week whether it is working.
Is it only for Shopify?
